Memorial service for Ronald Winter, 78, is planned for 11 a.m.
Friday at Onecho Bible Church in Colfax. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Winter, who died Wednesday, was bom in Dover, Kan. He served in the Marines from 1938 until 1949, serving on the USS Lexington in the Guam Campaign and also at Guadalcanal and in Okinawa during World War II.
In 1973 he moved to the Okanogan and Omak, areas where he owned and operated a dry cleaners, restaurants and an upholstery shop. Mr. Winters had also been a carpenter and a government employee. In 1993 he moved to Pullman, and then to Colfax about 18 months ago. He was a member of the Onecho Bible Church, the Civil Air Patrol, the Washington Pilots Association, the National Guard and Toastmasters.
Mr. Winter is survived by three daughters, Benay Lyman of Colfax, Diane Campbell of San Jose, and Connie Thom of, California; a son, Ronnie Winter of Santa Qara, two brothers, William Winter of Minneapolis, and Rex Winter of El Paso, Texas; a sister, Mary Douglas of San Antonio; and four grandchildren. Byrde (Tefft) Beckert Morn Bay, Calif. Memorial service for Byrde (Tefft) Beckert, 94, is planned for 3 p.m. Friday, at the Sunset Chapel in Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Beckert, who was bom in Nebraska, died Thursday. She graduated from North Central High School and was a member of the Audubon Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She moved to California in the late 1980s. Her first husband, Norman Tefft, died in 1970.
Her second husband, Charles Beckert, died September 14. She is survived by a daughter, Norma Norman of Newport, a son, James Tefft of Nipomo, 15 grandchildren and 30 greatgrandchildren. Arlo Al Breidenbach Spokane Private memorial service for Alo E. A Breidenbach, 74, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Breidenbach, who was bom in Aberdeen, S.D., died Friday. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded three Purple Hearts. He also served with the Air Force as a survival instructor during the Korean War. Mr.
Breidenbach was a graduate of the Harvard School of Accounting and wrote and contributed stories to Field and Stream Magazine for many years. He was a district manager for Equitable Life and Safeco insurance companies. After retiring from the insurance business he was an explosives foreman for major road construction. Mr. Breidenbach had been a Spokane resident for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife Maiy; three daughters, Diane, Julie, and Laurie; six sons, David, Stephen, Mark, Robert, Michael and Richard; and seven grandchildren. James McKay Spokane Memorial service for James Francis McKay, 91, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr.
McKay, who was bom in Butte, died Sept. 10. He graduated from Montana State University in 1933 and in 1936 he married Lillian Shelsted. Mr. McKay was the principal of Havre (Mont.) High School and later was the superintendent of schools in Troy, Mont.
He worked at Hanford Nuclear Reservation during World War II and later came to Spokane where he worked for Safeway Stores, as an employee trainer and later as a store manager. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and active in the Salem Lutheran Church Council. Mr. McKay was also a Democratic Caucus Precinct chairman and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. His wife died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Thompson of Kent, two sons. Rich McKay of Spokane and Jim McKay of Portland; and four grandchildren. Russell Smith Spokane Memorial service for Russell Smith, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Congregational Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith, who was bom in Elgin, Iowa, died Friday. He served in the Army during World War II and later sold mutual funds. Mr. Smith was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite bodies and the El Katif Shrine.
Survivors include his wife Bernice; two daughters, Susan Treffiy of Spokane and Sarah Hannah of Vancouver, a brother, Harry Smith of Tekoa, Wash; two sisters, Fem Talarico of Qarkston, and Esther Gillespie of Pullman; and four grandchildren. Poquette, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday. She graduated from North Central High School and was a homemaker and member of the El Katif Ladies Shrine Marching Unit. She owned several restaurants in Spokane including the Burger Stop, Dels Cafe, and most recently the West Side Cafe, until 1979 when she retired. John High School and worked as a dairy and wheat farmer in Mica for more than 50 years. Mr. Scott was a 12-year member of the Freeman School Board. His wife, Wilma, died in 1995. She was a 50-year Spokane resident and was a secretary for Spokane School District 81 elementary schools for 20 years. Jude Roman Catholic Church. He moved to Seattle 18 years ago. Mrs. OLeaiy also worked as a bookkeeper for Prudential Distributors for six years and then at URM Stores, for 15 years. She retired in 1974. She was a member of SL Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John; two sons, Patrick OLeary of Spokane and Dennis OLeaiy of Seattle; a sister, Qarice Qane of Spokane; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mildred Garringer Colviue, Wash. Funeral for Mildred Millie Garringer, 74, will be at 11 a.m. today at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Garringer, who was bom in Ruby, died Friday. In 1941 she married Frank Ferguson in Coeur dAlene and worked at several stores in Colville, including J.G Penney, Polka Dot Market and Montgomery Ward. In 1963 Mr.
Ferguson died, and she married Fred Garringer the same year. Mrs. Garringer owned and operated Millies Shoes in Colville from 1970 to 1980 and then worked for Country Homes Furniture and Birchs Shoe Rack in Colville. She was a member of the Colville Eagles Lodge, the Colville Rebekah Lodge and was a charter member of the Towanka I lome Ec Qub. Survivors include two daughters, Bobette Birch of Cowiche, and Donna Ford of Hebron, Ohio; two sons, David Ferguson of Spokane and Dennis Ferguson of Colville; a sister, Dorothy Welch of Colville; 16 grandchildren and 23 greatgrandchildren.

at Pines Cemeteiy. Mr. Cline, who was bom in Deer Park, died TTiursday. In 1939 he married his wife, Charlotte, in Wallace, Idaho. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 and was awarded a Bronze Star.
Mr. Qine worked for Eckerts Truck Line until 1949 and then worked for Consolidated Trucking Co. for 30 years. He retired in 1979. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No.
690. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Cline of Spokane; three daughters, Rita Bridge of Post Falls, Judy Martinson of Medford, and Sharon Boyd of Calder, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and five grandchildren. Edna Doty Spokane Visitation for Edna V. Doty, 74, will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Heritage Funeral Home.
