You may have mastered many braided loaves of challah, boiled dozens of bagels and fried up your fair share of latkes, but all that just barely scratches the surface when it comes to Jewish delicatessen fare. No need to jet off to Mile End, Katz’s, Canter’s or Wise Sons, though — we’ve rustled up a collection of 15 classics for you to make at home!

1. Pastrami: DIY this must-have deli meat, no smoker required! (via Food52)

2. Noodle Kugel: Enjoy squares of this baked, sweet and creamy noodle dish hot out of the oven or chilled. (via Food Network)

3. Cheese Blintzes With Homemade Blackberry Syrup: Blintzes are irresistible on their own, but a drizzle of luscious berry syrup takes them to a whole new level. (via Natural Chow)

4. Potato Knish: Choose a simple potato filling or one enhanced with kale, leeks and cream cheese. Carbs on carbs, it’s a good thing. (via Smitten Kitchen)

5. Corned Beef Hash: A restaurant-quality hash that’s super easy to make should be on your brunch menu most winter weekend mornings. (via Laura’s Best Recipes)

6. Chocolate-Dipped Coconut Macaroons: Chewy coconut macaroons have quite the shelf life, but these are so tasty they’re sure to disappear quickly! (via Taste Food)

9. Reuben Sandwich: Sink your teeth into this deli classic — pastrami, sauerkraut and swiss on rye — boosted with a spread of kicky, sriracha-laced Russian dressing. (via Little Ferraro Kitchen)

10. Gravlax: Try your hand at making home-cured salmon. It’s terrific used wherever lox would be used. (via Wild Greens and Sardines)

11. Rosemary Fig Hangover Hamentaschen: They may be a little unconventional as far as hamentaschen go, but these vodka-spiked-macerated-fig, manchego and rosemary cookies have our curiosity piqued. (via Balaboostas)

12. Dilled Matzo Ball Soup: Pretty sure you can’t call yourself a Jewish deli without matzo ball soup on the menu. (via The View From Great Island)

13. Pastrami Cheese Fries: If you can’t make it out to San Francisco to enjoy these Poutine-esque fries in person at Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen, making them at home is the next best thing. (via Tasting Table)

14. New York Bialy: No boiling water bath required to make these bagel-like, filled breads. (via Tomato Blues)

15. Rugelach: A spiced nut and faintly chocolatey filling is rolled up in an apricot-brushed cream cheese and butter-enriched dough to create these tempting cookies. (via Saving Dessert)

Hot Priest Andrew Scott Is Officially Narrating Erotica Series "The Queens Guard"

Jasmine Williams

May 24, 2024

I thought Tyler McCall couldn't get any cooler, but she's recently joined the ranks of erotic romantasy with her new audiobook series The Queen's Guard — and Fleabag actor Andrew Scott is officially narrating it for Quinn. Excuse me while I scream in all caps!

Now that that's out of my system, let's just say this one's for the girls who can't stop talking about THAT Bridgerton carriage scene. From the sexy narrator (we all remember his iconic "kneel" line) to the sexy story, here are all the juicy details about this new erotic audio book.

Who is Tyler McCall?

You may be wondering wondering who Tyler McCall is. To me, she's the epitome of cool. Her bylines appeared on Fashionista for years, and she even became the editor-in-chief before making the decision to become a freelance writer. Whenever I wanted the 411 about fashion week, designers, or careers, I could always count on Tyler to write something clever.

She's also interviewed everyone from Nicole Kidman to Queen Charlotte's India Amarteifio — two very amazing actresses — and has even more published work in InStyle, CR Fashion Book, and Glamour. Suffice to say, our girl knows how to tell stories, and well!

Irish actor Andrew Scott — you know, THE Hot Priest — is narrating this spicy audiobook series! You've seen him in TV shows and films like Modern Love, Victor Frankenstein, Fleabag, and Ripley. He's bringing his reverberating voice and charming wit to the mic, bringing allllllll the heat you already love from him.

What is "The Queen's Guard" about?

According to Tyler McCall's website, The Queen's Guard trails a conflicted guard named Robb. Torn between his duties to a savage queen (no, not like Megan Thee Stallion's definition) and not wanting harm to come to the woman he used to love, he's caught in the crosshairs of logic vs. emotion.

If that doesn't hook you yet, just take a look at the parallels between hisFleabagdialogue andThe Queen's Guarddialogue...Yeah. YEAH. 🥵

You can listen to the first two episodes of The Queen's Guardon Quinn. They introduce Robb, the queen he serves, and his task of finding the leader of the resistance against the crown.

Once again, I'd like to ask — when does Taylor Swift sleep? On top of The Tortured Poets Department, TS12, the Eras Tour, and her upcoming directorial debut, Taylor Swift is rumored to join the MCU. Rumors have been swirling for the last few years that "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" singer is appearing as Dazzler in Deadpool 3, but a brand new rumor suggests she'll get her very own TV show instead.

Marvel Studios is developing a ‘BLONDE PHANTOM’ series for Disney+ and they're considering Taylor Swift for the lead role, @DanielRPK reports. pic.twitter.com/JlNAKGNLbX

Marvel is rumored to be considering Taylor Swift for the lead role in an upcoming Blonde Phantom TV show on Disney+. The series would follow Louise Grant, who's a secretary in the 1940s for O.S.S. (Office of Strategic Services) agent Mark Mason. While she has feelings for Mark, he doesn't see her in the same way.

But when Louise decides she wants to help him figure out cases, she trades her desk for a red dress, mask, and heels, and sets out to fight crime as the Blonde Phantom. While an evening gown isn't exactly the most comfortable or utilitarian superhero outfit, color me intrigued.

And in A Cinderella Story meets Hannah Montana twist, Mark develops feelings for the Blonde Phantom, but since he doesn't realize it's literally Louise, and continues to not notice her in their regular lives. (I didn't realize it was possible to be your own competition in a love triangle, but I guess so).

Suffice to say, the potential casting has divided MCU fans. While some would love to see Taylor Swift in a starring role, others wish Marvel Studios would simply do another season of Agent Carter instead.

"Omg, this would be ICONIC," one X user writesabout the rumor.

"Fake news to conceal her role in Deadpool?" a Reddit user asks. "Cos surely if she is this blonde thing she isn’t the dazzler in the mcu." Looks like we'll have to wait until Deadpool 3 premieres to find out!

We Might Be Getting A "Modern Family" Reunion

Chloe Williams

May 24, 2024

Somehow, this fall, Modern Family turns 15. It's old enough to be in high school! In the era of reboots, sequels, and spinoffs, we're also getting plenty of reunions and I am NOT mad about it. Now that the One Tree Hill cast wants to do a reunion AND we're getting a third Downton Abbey movie, I am just craving a movie or special with all my favorite cast members. Apparently I'm not the only one because Jesse Tyler Ferguson just teased a Modern Family reunion. And, of course, the internet has gone wild.

"Haven't seen this view in a while," Ferguson said on his Instagram story. He posted a photo of the Modern Family set and I am surprisingly comforted by this one frame. The shoes, the umbrellas, even the basket — all the details remind me how much this set feels like a true home. I'm not crying, you are!

And fans of the show are more than excited about the idea of a Modern Family reunion. "WHAT THE ACTUAL F—K IS HAPPENING?!!!" one X user tweeted. "ARE WE READY GETTING A MODERN FAMILY REUNION SHUT UP I AM SO SERIOUS."

"No but a modern family reunion would actually heal me," another agrees.

The Modern Family cast recently reunited at the 2024 SAG Awards to present “Ensemble in a Comedy Series,” which was won by the cast of The Bear. The onstage reunion was a welcome sight after a get-together in November 2023 accidentally looked like a memorial for Ty Burrell!

"The last time we had a reunion, Ty Burrell wasn't able to come, and so we posed with photos of Ty," Jesse Tyler Ferguson told Jimmy Fallonin March of 2024. "Because he was the only one who wasn't there. We had all the kids and everyone...Then, the internet thought he was dead." TBH, that kind of miscommunication is just random enough to be the plot of a future Modern Family episode.

However, one of Jesse Tyler Ferguson's cast mates isn't so sure about a reunion himself. “I don’t like to do that stuff,” Ed O’Neill (who played Jay Pritchett on the show) says in an interview with TV Insider. "I mean, I am open to it. I like everybody involved, so I wouldn’t be the guy who [says no if everyone else wants to]. I wouldn’t do that.”

I hope we get to see a Modern Family reunion sooner rather than later!

Romanian Jews emigrated to New York as early as 1872. Among Jewish Romanians, goose breasts were commonly made into pastrami because they were available. Are delis Jewish or Italian? ›

Delicatessens originated in Germany (original: Delikatessen) during the 18th century and spread to the United States in the mid-19th century. European immigrants to the United States, especially Ashkenazi Jews, popularized the delicatessen in U.S. culture beginning in the late 19th century.

Among those laws, the meat and dairy cannot be mixed, and grape products made by non-Jews cannot be consumed.
